STUD OBJECTIVES
Old Munbilla has been breeding highly productive dorpers since 2004. Our focus has been on breeding truly low maintenance dorpers that are true to the Dorper Breed Standard of Excellence - to achieve maximum meat production, fertility and growth rate.
Breeding in the subtropical NSW North Coast brings with it very specific challenges that focus selection of our breeding animals:
* That continue to thrive under the ever present Barbers Pole worm challenge, which provides constant selection pressure for worm resistance.
* The sometimes sustained wet conditions we experience exacerbate uneven hoof growth. Conformation issues are more often than not not the root cause of hoof overgrowth. We apply very heavy culling pressure on any sign of abnormal foot growth.
* Dorpers are a low maintenance breed. They must shed well.
Sire selection is guided by strict adherence to conformation and type, as well as outstanding production traits as reflected in Lambplan.
Particular emphasis is placed on growth rate, muscling and shedding, always mindful of retaining the low birth weight dorpers are known for. We believe culling of ewes that have trouble lambing is essential to maintain the the low maintenance qualities that the breed is famous for.
Animal selection is guided by accredited South African and Australian inspectors who regularly assess our entire flock.
